Each year, the Department recognizes outstanding faculty, residents, staff, and students who have made notable contributions to the Psychiatry Undergraduate and Postgraduate Education Programs, and to scholarly activity, translational research, and clinical care in psychiatry. Awards are presented at both the Annual Clinical Faculty Appreciation and Awards Dinner and at the Annual Department Research Day. |

UBC PSYCHIATRY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN UNDERGRADUATE CLINICAL TEACHINGTo recognize excellence in undergraduate teaching, the UBC Department of Psychiatry established this teaching award which, each year, honours clinical faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to teaching, mentoring, and serving the students within the MD Undergraduate Program. UBC PSYCHIATRY RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN POSTGRADUATE CLINICAL TEACHINGEach year, the Department and the UBC Psychiatry Residents Association honours clinical faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to teaching, mentoring, and supporting our residents who are training at various sites across the province. CANMEDS AWARDRecipient is a peer-nominated resident who best exemplifies the CanMEDS Competencies of Medical Expert, Communicator, Collaborator, Manager, Health Advocate, Scholar, and Professional. GEORGE DAVIDSON SCHOLARSHIP AWARDAnnually awarded to a resident who has demonstrated exemplary research and scholarly activity during residency training. POSTGRADUATE PSYCHOTHERAPY AWARDGiven to a resident who has a strong interest in psychotherapy, has exceeded standard expectations in acquiring psychotherapy skills, and has demonstrated evidence of outstanding development as a psychotherapist. THE EMILY ELLINGSEN PRIZE FOR SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE UBC PSYCHIATRY RESIDENCY PROGRAMPeer-nominated award recognizing a resident who has made outstanding contributions to the residency program that have resulted in improvements in the training, professional development and/or camaraderie amongst residents. ISLAND MEDICAL PROGRAM EMILY ELLINGSEN RESIDENT AWARDPeer-nominated award recognizing a resident training in the Island Medical Program who has embodied the legacy of leadership and compassion of the late Dr. Emily Ellingsen. SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO RESEARCH AWARDAwarded in recognition of a resident who has contributed significantly to the research goals of the program by participating in a research project, publishing and/or presenting at the department Research Day. SIGNIFICANT LEADERSHIP AWARDAwarded to a resident who has demonstrated consistent and outstanding leadership within the residency program and/or in other community activities. THE DR. BRIAN MORRIS MEMORIAL AWARDAwardee is a resident who has displayed exemplary compassion and empathy combined with clinical excellence. THE DR. ROBERT KITCHEN MEMORIAL AWARDAwardee is a resident who has demonstrated excellence in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry training at St. Paul’s Hospital. THE DR. MARIA CORRAL AWARDStudent-nominated award recognizing a resident who has demonstrated excellence in teaching medical students during the psychiatry rotation at St. Paul’s Hospital. DR. MEGAN ROBERTS HONORARY SCHOLARSHIPRecognizing Royal Columbian Hospital residents who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, collaboration and mentorship, as was modeled by Dr. Megan Roberts during her life and career. |

THE ANNETTE E. HACKING MEMORIAL AWARD IN MEDICINEAnnual award given to a student with an aptitude for and interest in a career in mental health. Adjudication is based on leadership skills, commitment to community service and demonstrated social conscience. THE ANDREW NEIL MCTAGGART MEMORIAL PRIZE IN PSYCHIATRYOffered annually to a medical student who has demonstrated interest and academic achievement in the study of child and adolescent psychiatry, and is made on the recommendation of the UBC Psychiatry Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. THE KRISTIN SIVERTZ MEMORIAL PRIZE IN MEDICINE (Awarded on recommendation by the Faculty of Medicine)Annually awarded to a third or fourth year medical student who demonstrates development of the core competencies of an exceptional physician early in their medical training. THE JAY C. CHENG MEMORIAL PRIZE (Awarded on recommendation by the Faculty of Medicine)Annually awarded to a fourth year medical student who has demonstrated academic excellence in Psychiatry. DENNIS HARRIS MEMORIAL PRIZE IN PSYCHIATRYAnnually awarded to a third year medical student who has demonstrated academic excellence in Psychiatry. KATIE AND FRANK CHANG MEMORIAL PRIZE IN BRAIN HEALTHAnnually awarded to a fourth year medical student who has demonstrated a strong academic record, and plans to pursue brain health as a part of their postgraduate training. |

DEPARTMENT RECOGNITION EVENTS
Research Day provides an opportunity for students and trainees to participate in oral and poster presentations. Awards for students presentations are presented at the end of Research Day. Additional honours are conferred and presented throughout the year by the Faculty of Medicine and the University.
